The 25-Year Solar Warranty Doesn't Mean 25 Years Free — The Maintenance Myth Costing Homeowners Thousands

Here's the sentence every solar salesperson says with a straight face: "It's a 25-year warranty — basically maintenance-free."

That sentence is technically true and financially misleading at the same time. The 25-year number on your quote is a panel performance warranty — a promise about how much electricity the panels will still produce after a quarter century. It is not a promise that nothing else on your roof or in your garage will need attention, repair, or replacement during those 25 years.

That's a modest decline, and most homeowners never notice it happening year to year. But your original savings projection — the one on the quote that sold you — was likely built on flat production, not a declining curve, unless your installer specifically modeled degradation for you.

Ask your installer if their savings estimate already accounts for the degradation rate of your specific panel model (it's listed in the manufacturer's datasheet).
